Johnny G's Creole Kitchen

Taking a brief lunch stop at Johnny G's Creole Kitchen in Memphis on the way home from Jackson MS.  Strolling down Beale Street we were enticed to come inside by a sign that said Fried Strawberries and a friendly barker extolling the virtues of their cajun delicacies. Emily isn't very adventuresome as far as food goes but she was willing to risk it for the promise of Fried Strawberries and the fairly reliable fact that most places serve something chicken. The decor is definitely not polished or fancy which makes it a fun experience.  You walk right past the kitchen in this relatively long and narrow dining area.  Go on inside, sit anywhere you want and enjoy.

I had the Peppadew Brisket Po Boy. As brisket goes it was better than average. I still prefer my mom's. This one however was covered with Peppadew peppers. They are small round red and spicy sweet. Overall it was a good sandwich in a long crusty roll.

Emily had a bowl of Bourbon Street Chicken on rice. It was shredded chicken marinated in a Butter Hoisin sauce. The first thing you taste is sweet, then butter, then chicken. It was the better dish.  Obviously I didn't get the picture taken before she had half of it eaten.  I imagine we will be trying to recreate this dish at home.

For dessert we went for the Fried Strawberries. This dish was very delectable.  The mountain of fluff in the middle of the dish is whipped Cool Whip (They call is double whipped creme).  The strawberries are lightly battered and deep fried.  They taste like a strawberry pie does when you couldn't quite let cool before you tasted it.  The chocolate drizzle                                                                    was a great final touch.
